Article 7 - Mobility, Travel, and Defensive Driving

Leaders remain effective only if they can move safely and predictably during disruption.
Travel introduces unique risk. Flight delays, unfamiliar routes, public Wi-Fi, and routine patterns can all expose a leader to avoidable threats. Mobility planning is not about fear. It is about quiet habits that reduce friction and make you harder to target while keeping you mission ready.
We Are Red Teaming: Gaps in trip planning, hotel selection, ground movement, and digital hygiene that degrade executive decision readiness.
Mitigation Actions:
· Travel risk compounds when routines go unexamined, complacency sets-in, and decisions are made under fatigue and time pressure.
· Pre-trip risk awareness: Check the risk posture of your destination using verified sources for crime, protests, weather, and medical care.
· During travel: In hotels - locate the stairwell nearest your room and physically walk to it. On aircraft - locate the closest exit and count the rows. On vessels - locate the nearest exit from your stateroom and the route to get up on deck.
· Travel kit: Carry a sanitized phone you use only for travel, a satellite phone (if legal in your area), a sanitized, encrypted laptop, power banks, and an offline (hard copy) contact list.
· Blend in: Choose attire and luggage that do not draw attention.
· Digital hygiene: Use a VPN. Avoid public Wi-Fi for sensitive work and use tethered or satellite links. Store only the documents you'll need for the trip on a dedicated cloud account.
· Defensive driving: Take professional training and refresh annually.
· Vehicle hardening: Define thresholds for when to increase security posture, when to request visible security support and when to use up-armored transport.
Mobility is capability. How deliberately do you plan and rehearse the way you move in unfamiliar places?
